The Bouclé yarn

I tell you all about this yarn and the main brands that sell it.

Hello hello my beautiful people! Thanks for being here and reading me.

First of all, I am writing this post because I am always being asked about this yarn and where to get it in your country.

Let’s start with the first thing.

What is Boublé?

Also known as “Astrakhan,” bouclé is a type of textile yarn characterized by its wavy texture. This yarn is created by combining two or more threads of any composition (it can be wool, acrylic, etc.), where one is kept taut while the others are loosened, creating small loops along the length of the yarn. These loops give bouclé its distinctive appearance and its soft, rustic feel.

The term “astrakhan” is sometimes used interchangeably with “bouclé,” although it originally referred to a specific type of fabric that mimics the curly fleece of Astrakhan lambs. However, today both terms often refer to textiles with a similar looped or curly texture.

Personally, I love using this yarn to create hair for our amigurumis because of its texture and volume. The small loops and curls of bouclé realistically mimic the appearance of curly hair, providing an adorable and authentic touch to any amigurumi. This type of yarn adds volume and depth, making the hair look fuller and more dynamic.

Main bouclé brands

It should be noted that I haven’t tried any of these brands. I’m mentioning them because I took the time to find as many as possible so you could get an idea and look for something similar in your country.

Maybe your local craft store carries some of these brands. 😉

These are just some of the brands I’ve found. Again, I haven’t tried most of these yarns (except for Açucena, Curly, and Eureka), so I can’t tell you how good they are. If you have any bouclé yarn brands you’d like to share, you can leave them in the comments section below. I’ll be happy to update the blog to add more information.
Where to find bouclé yarn?

Although this yarn is quite famous, it’s not very common to find it everywhere. It will be up to you to search your local yarn shops to see if they sell this yarn or something similar (since I can’t know every local yarn shop in each country).

In the list above, if you click on the image, it will take you to the brand’s official page. Some brands sell their yarns directly, while others only sell to resellers.

I invite you to look for something similar in your area. I think I’ve given enough references to make it a bit easier for you to find a similar yarn.

And with that, I’ll say goodbye for now. Just a reminder that you can share any information you’d like to add to the post, such as if this yarn is available in your country and where to find it. This way, we help the community with valuable information.

Happy Crocheting!
